Halloween Poe Inspiration in 200 words (more or less)
I use to be yellow-belly. I always try to be brave and watch a horror movie without hiding my eyes, or screaming or whining, but nothing seems to work.
My last chance to overpass this fear was reading something scary. So, I chose a selection of tales by Edgar Allan Poe such as The black cat, The premature burial, Ms. found in a bottle, The fall of the house of Usher...
You can imagine how difficult was the begin, but in the end, not only did I appreciate them plots, but I also tried to write a really short tale... and I was so crazy that I decided to try in english.
So, sorry for my bad grammar and enjoy this short story!
I shook hands and hurried away, hoping I'd never see him again. That night, I thought about that strange meeting, and all the things that happened later. A heavy feeling of anxiety took over me. Alone, in my bed, every noise made me distressed: clockticking, doghowling and my heartbeat.
I began to sweat. My breath became short. I thought again to that handshake, the pallid face of the man and those wide and dull eyes trying to scan my soul. Fine hair fell on his nervous temples. The voice was deep and grave and when he started to talk with me, I felt shockwaves through my body. His vocabulary was solemn and refined while he was going about his sister, about her illness, asking for my doctor's opinion. I have never seen this man before but he knows who I am. How? What should I do? I had to answer. Quickly. I'm a doctor. I must cure everyone. I did the Hippocratic oath.
"I... I'll surely come. Tomorrow morning". I smiled to me, showing his black teeth. The day after, my carriage arrived in his path, the horses started to snort, getting nervous. That house was familiar, as a forgotten memory from a very ancient past. A shiver ran down my spine, but I had to enter. The door was open. The hall was empty.
I walked, introducing myself with a loud voice. No-one replied. Suddenly, the door slammed. It was a trap...
And... Happy Halloween!
